8 Revolutionary Classic Cars from the 1950s through the 1970s (3 of 5)

Lamborghini Countach

Fast forward to the 1970s, and behold the grace and beauty of the Lamborghini Countach, the iconic sports car designed by Marcello Grandini. Introduced in 1974, it was a muscle car without a peer. Thanks to its V12 engine, it could go from 0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds, which would get a shrug today but was a pretty mind-blowing feat of engineering in those days. Although the Countach was discontinued in 1990, Lamborghini continues to produce limited-edition series. But with a price tag of $2.4 million, you’d probably need to win a jackpot or three if you ever wanted to own one.

Maserati A6GCS/53 Berlinetta

Designed by Pininfarina, the Maserati A6GCS/53 really turned heads when it was introduced at the Turin auto show in 1954. With a 2-liter, 170-horsepower engine, it could achieve a top speed of 146 mph. A roofless version of the car had gotten its start as a true race car two years earlier, but heavy rains during the Mille Miglia made it a rather unpleasant experience for the racers, who requested a closed version. And tada, the Berlinetta version was born!
